What Is Deep Vein Thrombosis?

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a condition in which a blood clot forms inside a deep vein. The blood clot either partially or completely blocks the flow of blood in the vein. DVT occurs mainly in the lower extremities. DVT is a leading cause of death worldwide that is a preventable global health condition. In Europe and the U.S., DVT is claiming more lives than AIDS, breast and prostate cancer, and motor vehicle crashes combined.1 Intermittent pneumatic compression therapy is a non-invasive treatment to help prevent DVT.

Pneumatic compression therapy devices are used to help prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), blood clots in the deep veins of the legs. The devices use air compression through sleeves that are secured around the legs. This helps to increase blood flow through the veins of your legs and helps with DVT Prevention.

DVT is a serious medical condition that can cause swelling, pain, and tenderness in your leg. Pneumatic Compression Therapy is used to prevent a deep clot in a leg vein forming and then breaking free and stick in a vessel in the lung also known as a pulmonary embolism (PE).
